Where to Eat

Tel Aviv, Israel

Food Bar
Hacarmel Market

The Food Bar is a small simple restaurant nestled away in Hacarmel Market. However, don't let the words small and simple fool you. The Food Bar was one of the BEST meals I ate in Tel Aviv!

The food is FRESH! Hacarmel Market is well known for its fresh produce. So there's no better place for the Food Bar to purchase its ingredients. You watch as the chef uses what he recently purchased to create your meal. The smells drive your taste buds wild as you are looking at what the other patrons are eating. The staff is very friendly and engaging as they are cooking. When the food arrives, you are forced to take a moment and appreciate the colorful masterpiece which is set in front of you. Every succulent bite was better the last!

Another great thing about The Food Bar is the price. If you're on a cheap budget, eat at the Food Bar. In a 24 hour period, I ate there twice. The food is cheap, good and fresh! What else could you ask for in looking for a great restaurant.

Abouelafia

Yeffet 4, Tel Aviv Jaffa

Some of the best restaurants are those that you just so happen to stumble upon. After a wonderful night swim and a casual walk through Jaffa, we found our way to Abouelafia. Upon arrival the restaurant seemed quiet but they had room for our large group so we decided to stay. How happy I am that we stayed! As the night continued on, it became apparent that this was the favorite restaurant of many locals, and we soon saw why! It was our first restaurant in Tel Aviv and for the entire next week all of us who ate there couldn't stop talking about our meal and when we were going back!

You walk into a large dining room with stone walls. The lively, accommodating and energetic staff are eager to welcome you. Your meal is served with about 20 small plates of different types of mixed vegetables, hummus and other traditional Tel Aviv delights. When you finish with one, they bring you another until you can't eat anymore. The meat is tender and cooked to perfection! I drank what must be the best lemonade I have had in a really long time! The advantage of being with a large crowd that night was being able to sample some of everything, and everything was delicious.

For the amount of food they give you, you would believe the price would be a lot more. If your on a tight budget, this is a great place to eat; actually eat here at least twice! The price, the food and the service make this restaurant a must do in Tel Aviv.
